July 1 Flute Circle BBQ!
Greetings Fluters! Enjoying the rain & humidity? I am just back from 2 weeks in New Mexico and Arizona: no rain for three years, 6% humidity. Gives one a dry sense of humor. But enough about me…
We are having a cookout! Our excellent host, Mardi, says:
“Yes, the BBQ is still on. It’s going to be very hot that day so I’m planning on everyone preferring to be inside the house. It’s going to be ultra casual (or, NDN Normal).” Bring spouses, significant others, insignificant others, and kids, if you like. And bring those flutes!
We will start things off at 1 p.m. at Mardi’s great house/studio. This time will let us avoid the withering late afternoon heat.
Here’s the menu (start drooling now…):
Susan is making potato salad and deviled eggs. Mardi is cutting up watermelon, baking beans and providing soft drinks and ice tea. (Bring alternative drinks if you want to.) The primary meat we’ll be BBQ’ing is steaks. If kids are coming we can happily put hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. We need desserts, veggies & dips. Bring anything else you’d like to have…just let Mardi know.
Wandering souls may call 919-306-4783 (John K) for directional assistance & moral support.
Mardi sez: “I can’t wait to see everyone. I’m hoping Jon brings the baby.”There is lot’s of new good stuff to talk about. See you there, Flutefully yours,John Kincheloe
July Gathering
The July Neuse River Flute Circle gathering will be on Saturday July 1 at Mardi’s house. We will have a potluck (we bring salads, desserts, drinks) and cookout at Mardi’s great house. You won’t want to miss this gathering. Bring your flutes to show and play. It will be a nice way to chill out with some good people. We will start mid-afternoon.
A map, an address, & details about the time on July 1st will follow.
REMINDER! JUNE 10 FLUTE MEETING!
Don’t forget that our meeting this month is at Jon Norris’ place. He is opening up his flutemaking workshop to us. Cool, yes? We’ll start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday the 10th. The ones who aren’t playing with the baby (shout out to Jack Thomas Norris!) can look through Jon’s great flutes. Afer a while we’ll wander over to his workshop where we can assault Jon and David with questions about why the holes go where they go & how come my flute sounds “breathy.”

June Flute Circle Meeting
We had a great time playing Native American flutes in Duke Chapel on Sunday. For those of you who missed the chance, if you ever want a remarkable flute experience, take your flute into that grand space & play. It is amazing how the notes expand and hang in that Gothic canyon! Go there. You will redefine “soul music” for yourself.
People in the Chapel were so appreciative of the music we made. A gentleman who works there heaped praise on us and said he hoped we would come back. Bigtime thanks go out to Eddie Thomas for pulling this together for us.
For our June gathering Jon Norris is hosting our meeting at his house on Saturday the 10th. While we are there he will show us his workshop where he makes his Native American flutes. Have you ever wondered how those fabulous flutes are made? How they are tuned? How do you fix a flat flute? Here is your chance to learn more about how the flutes get born.
