September NRFC Meeting!

Here are the details on our next Circle gathering:

When: Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 a.m.- noonish plus (as usual)

Where: The Picnic Shelter in Lockridge in Chapel Hill. Circle member Erica Alexander has reserved this for us. Thanks, Erica!

Here are directions:

-From Raleigh take I-40 to exit 266.
-At end of this exit ramp, take a right at the light.  This is Hwy 86.
-Take a right at the next light (immediately after your turn onto 86) onto Whitfield Rd.
-Go one mile on Whitfield.
-Turn left onto Turkey Farm Rd
-Go one mile on Turkey Farm Rd;  cross one-lane bridge;  follow curve
till it straightens (less than 1/4 mile).
-Take a right onto Lockridge Rd (a gravel road).  It is the only right hand turn after the bridge.
(If you get to Mt. Sinai Rd, you’ve gone too far.)
-Upon turning onto Lockridge Rd, you will see a yellow farmhouse on your left and playground (and Picnic Shelter!) on your right.
-Park along gravel road on grass.

(If you want to use mapquest, use the address of the yellow farmhouse: 5518 Turkey Farm Rd, Durham)

It’s going to be fun to have a gathering outside. Here is how Erica describes the place:
“The picnic shelter is in a nice setting, surrounded by trees.  Flutes sound beautiful there.  There is also a playground (climbing structure and sandbox and tire swing, rustic and hand built) if anyone wants to bring kids.”

Further enticements from Erica: “I will bring OJ, muffins, hot water for tea, milk and sugar for coffee, plates, napkins, cups, etc. I have a coffee maker which I will bring.   Can someone bring some ground coffee?   Since I am not a coffee drinker, I find it is usually best for coffee savvy people to be in charge of picking out coffee.”

“If anyone has questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks!”

Erica

Erica would know better, but I’d guess this is about a 40 minute Saturday morning drive from Meredith College. Carpoolers could leave from Meredith at quarter to 10…anybody for that? If so, start emailing!

Food, music, great place to hear flutes — what more can we want? Have I got a crazy flute to show everybody! Jen, are you back from way out west?

See you there!

Aug. 5 Flute Circle Meeting!

A reminder of our meeting at Mardi’s place this Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. At the meeting (thanks to Jon Norris) we will get to see the DVD of Mary Youngblood’s recent flute workshop. Listening to this master performer will be a great way to expand the ways we play the Native American flute. I should also say that at our meeting there will be an opportunity to contribute to Nammy and Grammy award winner Mary Youngblood for allowing this workshop to be taped. We’ll pass the hat around.

Jon has agreed to walk us through some of the exercises Mary did at the workshop. No pressure, though! We will keep it all low keyed, as usual. All of this should be fun & should help us play and perform better.

What: Neuse River Flute Circle gathering
When: August 5, 10:30 a.m.- around noonish
Where: Mardi’s house (Thanks, Mardi!)

Wandering souls may call 919-306-4783 (John K) for directional assistance & the usual moral support.

Flutefully yours,
John Kincheloe
